Ahead of Mahapanchayat call over quota demand on May 15, the Gurjar leaders will meet Gujarat Patidar leader Hardik Patel in Ajmer on Friday where he is expected to visit Dargah Sharif. Meanwhile, friction between Gurjars surfaced on Thursday as a group of leaders protested against the call of Mahapanchayat.

“Patel will come in Ajmer where we would meet him and discuss strategy of taking forward the agitation. In the past he had supported our demands of reservation,” said Himmat Singh, spokesperson of Gurjar Arakshan Sanghart Samiti. The body raised demand of sub-categorisation of Other Backward Class (OBC), asking for 5 per cent reservation and threatened if their demand is not met they will start agitation.

The leaders will assemble at Adda (Bayana) to take a final call over the agitation on May 15.

On Thursday, a faction of Gurjar leaders held a similar Panchayat in Bharatpur’s Raroda where they protested against the Mahapanchayat.

“Those leaders who participated in this Panchayat are puppets of Raje government. They don’t want the community’s demand of reservation to be met,” said the spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the Union ministry of Railway has issued a circular directing commanding officers of six battalions to deploy Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) on the track passing Adda, the spot of Mahapanchayat. It has directed the officers to depute cops to be ‘fully equipped with all necessary gears and riot drill equipments, wireless equipments etc’.

The Gurjars have demanded for 5 per cent reservation with a sub sub-categorisation of OBC. In Rajasthan, the total reservation of 49 per cent have been categorised into three- OBC (21), SC (16) and ST (12). In the recent budget session, the Assembly passed a Bill, giving one per cent reservation under Most Backward Class (MBC) to Gurjars and other four castes, ensuring that the cap of 50 per cent isn’t breached.
