The longstanding ban on Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) has finally been lifted, but with certain strings attached. The decision was taken during the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Special General Meeting (SGM) held on Monday. Confirming the news to DNA, BCCI’s acting president CK Khanna said, “Yes we have lifted the ban, imposing certain conditions.” Khanna further added that RCA will be on board after “They will have to give an undertaking in the court regarding these conditions.”

Though the news had the cricketing clan in the state break into celebration mode, RCA’s president CP Joshi was composed and held himself back from any reaction. “I will be able to react on the development after I get to know what exactly are the terms and conditions that the BCCI has imposed along lifting of the ban,” Joshi told DNA on the phone while on his way to Jaipur.

President of Alwar Cricket Association and former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s son Ruchir Modi, welcomed the move. In a statement he said, “Hope that with the release of withheld funds and grant of international matches and IPL, cricket in Rajasthan will return to its glory. It was the ongoing proceedings in Hon’ble Rajasthan High Court where the ban of RCA was an issue that has ultimately led to the good sense prevailing in BCCI.”

The state’s sports minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar is also hopeful that now international cricketing action will return to the state. “It is a very positive development and I hope the association is now run in a democratic manner creating a smooth deck for the proper functioning of the game,” Khimsar said.

Ruchir Modi echoed the same sentiments and has assured of his full support to the present management of RCA and hoped that devoid of groupism and factionalism, the interest of cricket will be the prime motive in running the association and every stakeholder, 33 district cricket association's, players, administrators and cricket lovers at large will be treated with respect and fairness.

Moreover, players expressed hope that now they will have a proper system in place giving them a good competitive environment to prepare for various tournaments. “The game will be back on the track now. With this decision, both cricketers and fans will have something great to look forward to,” said Rajasthan captain Pankaj Singh. Rajasthan pacer Aniket Choudhary added, “There were no proper camps and matches before Ranji and we all have since past 4 years preparing on our own, which has cost us a lot. This is a welcome news.”

RCA was banned in 2014 and all the cricketing affairs in the state were being managed by the ad hoc committee constituted by BCCI. Since that time, neither international cricket nor IPL matches have been played at the SMS Stadium. After the ban, Rajasthan Royals had to play on its adopted home ground in Ahmedabad instead of Jaipur. Last international game played at the SMS Stadium was an ODI game between India and Australia in 2013 and the last IPL game witnessed at the ground was between Royals and Chennai in 2013.
