ACB nabs six RTO officials extorting money on highways

After receiving reports of an extortion racket run by the RTO staff, ACB had been keeping a close watch on their activities for the past six months.

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) personnel on Monday in surprise raids caught red-handed six RTO officials, including an inspector and two touts extorting money from transporters at two check posts at Teendhar on National highway -52 and Raipur on state highway in Jhalawar district. The ACB has recovered a huge amount of unaccounted money from the RTO personnel, said IG, ACB V.K. Singh who has been monitoring the entire operation.

After receiving reports of an extortion racket run by the RTO staff, ACB had been keeping a close watch on their activities for the past six months.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), ACB, Kota, Chandrasheel Thakur said after adequate evidence and facts of unauthorised collection of money were gathered through advanced high quality cameras and equipment, IG V.K. Singh directed to carry out the raids.

Ten ACB personnel were divided into two five-member teams, who in the guise of helpers and conductors boarded trucks randomly  today afternoon on the way to Raipur and Teendhar check posts and caught six RTO personnel including inspector Dara Singh and two touts while they are extorting and collecting money from the truck drivers without giving them, in most of the cases, any receipt of the department, ASP Thakur said.  Further interrogation and inquiry into the matter is underway and the search at residential locations of the eight detained including the six RTO personnel is also going on, the ASP said.
