College students and youth of the nation is considered as the primary viewers of Indian Premier League (IPL).

However, youth of the city are finding it difficult to attend the matches organised in Jaipur after four years. This is because the tickets this year are not available at concessional rates for the students, in contrast to 50 per cent concession that they received during previous seasons.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers organised a protest at Sawai Man Singh Stadium on Tuesday, hoping for price reduction. As many as 12 protesters were taken into custody by the police soon after the demonstration started.

“A counter was used to be set up at RU every season. Students used to receive tickets at about 50 per cent discounted rates. However, there is no counter for selling tickets at the university this year and no concession is being provided. We have demanding 50 per cent concession,” said Vikram Chaudhary, co-secretary Jaipur, ABVP.

The protest was organised inside the SMS Stadium premises for about an hour, after which a team of local police dragged the students out. “They pushed us into a police van and dropped us near Jhalana institutional area. We were not taken to the police station,” Chaudhary added.

It is to be noted that IPL in Jaipur was organised by Rajasthan Cricket Association in previous seasons, while this year it is being organised by Rajasthan Royals.

“There are about 3,00,000 students in Jaipur. There should be price concession for students. They should be given 50 per cent discount at least,” said RS Nandhu, secretary, RCA.

Meanwhile, the entire episode throws light on poor security in place ahead of the match. The ease with which the protestors entered and created ruckus is condemnable. A bunch of bouncers were reduced to mere spectators.
