It seems that the issue of fee hike by private schools has become a headache for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the election year. The private schools have increased the fees arbitrarily and the state government is failing to take any action on this hike. In such a situation, if the fee for private schools is not regulated then, it will become an electoral issue.
According to the Rajasthan Fees Act 2016, there should be a committee for fixing fee in private schools which consists of the members of the parent and school management, a public notice should be issued by the school management before forming the fee committee.
Under this act, information about the formation of the fee committee should be uploaded on the education department’s website. Nearly seven thousand schools in the state and 58 schools in Jaipur have not yet formed the fee committee.
The education department has issued the notice to these 7,000 schools and has instructed to set up the fee committee within seven days. On the other hand, most of the schools have formed a fee committee without issuing a public notice.
According to Parents, private schools are pressurizing to buy stationery, uniform, shoes and other items against the provisions of the fees act. But the Education Department is not able to take action against private schools. One thing is for sure if the government fails to resolve this issue it can prove costly for BJP in the coming polls.
