A newborn girl was found abandoned on the roadside bushes near MIT Institute under RK Puram police station area in Kota on Sunday afternoon. The infant was rushed to hospital in a critical condition where she is undergoing treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Two students, while passing through the area, heard the infant cry around 2.30 pm. They searched the area and the abandoned child was found on the bushes.  Immediately, they called the Childline and informed the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), said its chairman Harish Gurubaxani.

The infant was taken to Kota Heart Hospital where she had turned blue. According to doctors, she is in a critical condition.

The CWC asked RK Puram SHO Dhanraj Meena to lodge a case against unidentified parents of the infant, said Gurubaxani. But no written report in this matter was received so far.

This is the first case of an infant being rescued in Kota district since February 2016. Campaign Navya had been carried out in the district for generating awareness among parents who were not willing to keep their child, Gurubaxani added. This reduced instances of children being abandoned in the district.
