A tearful adieu to Rajasthan martyrs

Jitendra Singh, Hemraj Gurjar and Ramniwas Yadav were cremated in their native villages

Three BSF soldiers who were martyred in cross-border firing by Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir were laid to rest with full state honours in their native villages in different parts of Rajasthan on Thursday. 

A huge crowd of people, including public representatives, district administration officials and police personnel gathered to bid farewell to the soldiers.

At Salempur Kalan village near Busawar in Bharatpur district, the three-year-old son of assistant commandant Jitendra Singh could not even understand what the tragedy actually means. 

The child–who was playing around the gathering–kept telling his uncles, “Papa ne kaha tha phone karna (papa had asked me to call him)”.

Where only a fortnight back a family from Bansur was celebrating birth of a child, on Thursday the same family, relatives and even locals from Bansur were mourning the death of the father of the child. 

Constable Hansraj Gurjar was martyred on the International Border at Samba in Jammu and Kashmir. In Bharatpur, the three-year-old son of martyred assistant commandant Jitendra Singh performed the last rites of the his father.

An year back, Hansraj too had became father to a baby boy, however, the child died a month later. His wife gave birth to a son in May and on Thursday, his 15-day old son performed Hansraj’s last rights. 

In Sikar the last rites of the martyred assistant sub-inspector Ramniwas Yadav were performed by his son, who is serving in the NRDF.

After hearing the news of the martyrdom of the three BSF jawans, villagers from the nearby villages of the three martyrs gathered in huge numbers with moist eyes. Though they had gathered for the cremation, the people raised slogans chanting Hindustan Zindabad. 

Ceasefire Violation

In the ceasefire violation, Pakistan Rangers on Tuesday night resorted to heavy firing and shelling on the BSF troopers stationed at the International Border in Chamiyal that left four soldiers. Three of the martyred soldiers were from Rajasthan. 

The martyrs

The 1990 born Constable Hansraj Gurjar who joined BSF in 2011 hailed from Alwar 

Assistant Sub Inspector Ramniwas, who was born in 1966 and joined BSF in 1988 hailed from Sikar.

Assistant Commandant BSF Jitendra Singh, who was born in 1984, joined BSF in 2011 and hailed from Bharatpur.
