Moti Doongri Palace of Alwar is a perfect example of communal harmony.  It is the one of the few places where temple and mazar are under the same roof. 

Where Lord Hanuman is worshipped on Tuesday and Saturday, hundreds of devotees visit the mazar on Thursdays. Also, this might be the only place where Hindus can be seen visiting the mazar and Muslims bow down before Lord Hanuman’s statue.

Alwar’s Moti Doongri Palace has been lying in ruins for nearly 100 years. Maharaja Mangal Singh constructed the 4-storey palace with 8 rooms. The historians say that the royal family used to live in the palace at that time. In 1928, Maharaj Jai Singh started the ship-shaped palace, the design of which came from England.

According to people, the second queen of the king, committed suicide. Saddened by her death Jai Singh stopped the construction of the palace by terming it as an inauspicious. Although the city development trust has done its renovation work in the past days. At that time, there used to be 10 tehsils in Alwar and 37% residents of the city were Muslims. Hanuman temple was already there on Moti Doongri and the mazar was established at the palace later.

Both Hindus and Muslims visit the palace regularly, especially on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The Hanuman devotees visit the temple on Tuesday and Saturday, while the people visit the mazar in abundance on Thursday. 

The devotees visit both the temple and the mazar and seek the blessings for maintaining peace and harmony. This is the place where people from both religions find themselves far from communal tension.

90-yr-old palace
