Q: While doing MBA in UK, how did you enter politics?

A: From childhood, I was interested in political and social issues. When I went to the UK for MBA, I participated in politics there. That was my beginning.

Q: How was your tenure as Mayor?

A: I did business for a year but despite the success I was not enjoying it. I thought of relocating to a village. After going there, municipal elections came. I formed a panel of my own and worked under the leadership of Mata ji. I was leader of the House. From there, I started doing village-level work.

Q: How did you make a choice between the BJP and the Congress?

A: My grandfather was in the Congress, which was the party of the freedom struggle at that time. But for me, BJP is a party of new ideas and patriotism. Coincidentally, Munde Saheb was looking for an educated young man who wanted to work. So, I joined Yuva Morcha. My mission was to work for the country. So, it didn’t matter if I was beginning with the Opposition.

Q: When were you spotted by Narendra Modi and Amit Shah?

A: Modiji is very senior. Our leader is Devendra Fadanvis Saheb. Before that, Munde Saheb, Gadkari Saheb and Pramod Mahajan Saheb were the party leaders. These three leaders gave an opportunity to those who wanted to work.

Q: Have you got a chance to meet Modi ji?

A: Of course.I met him before the 2014 elections when I was general secretary of the state unit. His memory is very sharp. He mentioned this when we had spoken over phone. I was quite surprised.

Q: How do you rate Modi as a PM?

A: He is the perfect person at this moment. There is no one like him. No one can match his dedication to nation’s service. He has left an impression on the world. We are powerful now, a proof of which is the way immigration officials look at our passport now compared to 15-20 years ago.

Q: Is Prime Minister Modi becoming a global leader?

A: He is already a global leader. The whole world looks up to him to resolve global issues.

Q: What do you have to say about the combination of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah?

A: Amit Shah came to Maharashtra during elections. He used to live at the party office all the time. He used to eat and sleep at the party office. His focus is the party while Modi ji’s focus is the country. It is a great combination.

Q: Is there a health tourism policy on the anvil?

A: Mumbai is the medical capital. Besides India, Mumbai is also well known for its high quality hospitals in Asia. So,we are preparing a medical policy to provide treatment to people from across the country. But for that, a chain would need to be created whether at the bus station or airport. A lot of people come for treatment from the Gulf countries also.

Q: You also look after employment. What is happening in skills development there?

A: Maharashtra is where the employment guarantee scheme (EGS) originated. The employment guarantee scheme was implemented in 2005. However, Maharashtra has its own EGS. Every person who wishes to work is provided employment through the Samridh Maharashtra Jankalyan Yojna, which pays  Rs 200 as daily wages. Farmers should get benefit from this scheme. Also, in the next three months, 1.35 lakh wells would be constructed.

Q: How is your relation with the CM?

A: I am happy to have the opportunity to work under Devendra Saheb. Whenever we go to him with a good scheme, he gives 100% support. When you have this sort of guarantee, one enjoys the work.

Q: It is being said that he is concerned about his image? His delivery is weak? Do you think so?

A: The CM is a good decision maker. He takes quick decisions. Yes, he is careful about personal image but he doesn’t have a personal agenda. Development of Maharashtra is his agenda. All works that were stalled have restarted.

Q: Recently, there was Dalit issue in Pune. Then, it was said that the CM has also become a flop like the Haryana CM.

A: It was quite unfortunate incident. We have been calling Maharashtra a forward state which had eliminated differences of religion, caste, creed and economic status decades ago.Our opponents have been resorting to this tactics after failing to challenge us politically. They are harmful for the country. Good politics comes with better solutions but they hatched a conspiracy by creating caste divide to defame us.

Q: Are you confident of forming a government in the state in 2019?

A: Definitely. The work we have done would fetch results in five to six years. People know that our intention is good. We are undertaking development work and there is no corruption. We are confident of Modi ji and Devendra ji coming back in the state and the Centre, respectively.

Q: What about the Shiv Sena?

A: We have been working with the Shiv Sena for decades. We cannot be a friend and an enemy at the same time. If people have made the BJP the largest party, they will have to accept it. It is not possible to stay in government and remain in the opposition as well.

Q: Is Rane Saheb joining the cabinet?

A: This is for the CM to decide. He has worked well in Konkan. He was mistreated in the Congress. He is a very senior leader and the CM appreciates his good work.

Q: What about the NCP?

A: They have tried all combinations. This idea of blocking the BJP is wrong. Joining hands with the BJP out of fear is not good. It sends a wrong message that one is ready to do anything for power and self interest. The message to the people is that they will join hands for power and be ready to part ways for power.

Q: Your government claims to end corruption but there have been instances that challenge this claim. What went wrong?

A: The Chief Minister has zero tolerance for corruption. Same is for the Prime Minister.Controversy is part of politics. It is easy to level allegations without a basis.Old habits of government employees have not gone completely. Out government is trying to bring change in them but it will take time.

Q: Is there a possibility of parliament and assembly elections being held together?

A: I don’t think it is possible this time but we have been thinking that next time in 2024 all elections should be held simultaneously so that election campaign gets over in one go. Then everyone can work together for the next five years.

Q: Are you confident of winning the 2019 election?

A: Yes.I believe that if one works in public interest, the people can make a difference between the good and the bad. I believe that we have done well and the whole world will say that under Modi Saheb’s leadership, good work has been done.
