Virat Kohli is without a doubt one of the greatest batsman in the modern era. In IPL 2016, he created a world record as he smashed 973 runs in one edition including four centuries. Virat Kohli has been a run-machine for Royal Challengers Bangalore but his exploits have not helped the franchise scale the summit of the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore have reached the final three times and have fallen short every single time. In the last three editions, they have been at the bottom of the table in 2017 and 2019.

However, one former coach has made an explosive revelation about Kohli and his struggles as captain in his initial days. “If I have to look back then I would say that in IPL there used to be 25-30 players (in the squad) and it was the coach’s duty to look after all the players. Sometimes he was a bit of a loner in the team. Sometimes, he backed the wrong players. But, you can’t blame him for that. I wanted certain players to bowl or bat in certain conditions/situations but he had different ideas,” Ray Jennings said in an interaction with the website cricket.com.

Ray Jennings worked with the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008 to 2013 and he opened up on Kohli's struggles in the initial years of his captaincy. Jennings said the current Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper backed the wrong players at times and there was a difference of opinion between him and Kohli when it came to selection which may have led to RCB's failures in the past.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s ‘balanced’ side

Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli revealed that his side has trained in a balanced manner in order to regain the momentum after five-month-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 13th edition of the IPL, which got postponed due to the coronavirus scare in India, will now be played across three venues in the UAE -- Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.

"Few shoulders were sour initially, because we threw after months and suddenly you realise few muscles are sleep. So I (Kohli) think the guys are getting back into the intensity levels that we want," Kohli said in a video posted by RCB's official Twitter handle.

Kohli has played 177 matches for RCB so far and has managed to score 5,412 runs in the tournament. He also picked up the Orange Cap in the 2016 edition after scoring 973 runs, including four centuries and seven half-centuries. The IPL 2020 will be played in the UAE from September 19-November 10 and the tournament will run for 53 days. RCB will take on SunRisers Hyderabad in their opening match on September 21.
