Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore have decided to give a unique tribute to the coronavirus warriors during IPL 2020. During the virtual press conference on Thursday, Virat Kohli announced that Royal Challengers Bangalore will sport the message ‘My COVID heroes’ on the back of their jerseys for the entire duration of the IPL. In a statement released by the franchise, it said Royal Challengers Bangalore will also be supporting GiveIndia Foundation by donating the proceeds from the auction of the jerseys that players wear during season’s first match.
In the press conference, Kohli said he was proud to be part of this campaign. “In the past few months, whenever I heard the stories of the Covid Heroes it has given me literal goosebumps. These real challengers have made the country proud and inspired all of us to be more persistent and dedicated to our efforts to build a better tomorrow. I am truly proud to wear RCB’s “My Covid Heroes” jersey as a sign of solidarity and gratitude to everyone who is right now going the extra mile to support the community at large. They have batted day and night and fought on the field, and I am honoured to call them my heroes,” Kohli said.
Apart from doing this novel cause, Royal Challengers Bangalore will be determined to snap their title jinx in the Indian Premier League. They have lost in the final three times and in the last three editions, they have finished at the bottom of the table in two editions.
Royal Challengers Bangalore will open their IPL 2020 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Dubai on September 21. Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore have been practising hard in Dubai for the last few weeks. There was further good news when it was announced quarantine rules can be relaxed for players coming from the UAE in Dubai.
This is a welcome boost to Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have Aaron Finch, Moeen Ali and Adam Zampa in their line-up. All three of them will be available for selection on September 21 provided their COVID test is negative on Friday.
