Team India's captain and vice-captain - Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma - will be against each other when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) take on Mumbai Indians (MI). Both sides have a win and loss to their name, however, the Rohit Sharma-led side is still ahead in the points table due to net-run rate.

Mumbai Indians bounced back with a 49-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after losing the IPL 2020 opener to Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The Hitman's boys produced a complete performance to secure their 20th win over KKR. It got Mumbai their first points in the current IPL edition.

As for RCB, they won their opening match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) but faced a huge defeat against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). RCB have to make some changes to make their team stronger as they do not want to lose any more matches.

Samuel Badree - debuting for RCB owned the stage with his four wickets and giving away only nine runs. He removed Parthiv-McClenaghan-Rohit to pick a hat-trick for RCB. However, MI clawed back with the help of Kieron Pollard-Nitish Rana combo and then with the help of the Pollard-Krunal Pandya partnership. Pollard dismissal was with the target in sight and Hardik Pandya came in to put the finishing touches.

Umesh Yadav had got the best of starts for RCB taking two wickets off the first two balls, but MI's captain stepped up big time. Evin Lewis was brilliant as he counter-attacked and RCB never came back from that. Rohit just missed a hundred. As for RCB, they got off to a pretty decent start but 2 wickets in a space of 4 balls derailed the chase. Captain Kohli fought a lone battle. ​

Kohli and the RCB fans needed this win badly. This was RCB's third win in the season and all three have come at the Chinnaswamy. The seamers set it up and they finished it in style. Tim Southee removed Ishan Kishan in the very first over and Umesh Yadav picked two in two deliveries.
Kieron Pollard fell to a lazy stroke and JP Duminy was run-out. It was on the Pandya brothers to take their team over the line, but they couldn't.​

With 40 needed off 3 overs, AB launched Hardik Pandya for 18 and the momentum clearly rested on the home side. Malinga had 17 to defend in the final over and the first ball went for six, however, Malinga reminded everyone of his death bowling skills. Spearhead Jasprit Bumrah then set the game up for his team as he conceded 5 legal runs and claimed 2 key wickets in his final 2 overs. Kohli too was dismissed in the 14th.​

RCB put on a hard fight despite a below-par total, but they could not help them win. When Moeen Ali got one to rip through Rohit Sharma, there was a belief in the red camp. He then removed the set Quinton de Kock too in the same over. Pawan Negi and Yuzvendra Chahal had the potential to edge MI, but Negi was not up to the mark. Hardik Pandya was under great pressure, but credit goes to Ishan Kishan for the way he counter-attacked and got three crucial sixes. This loss was the seventh loss for RCB which had ended their hopes of a playoff spot.
