With the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) just a few days away, teams are putting in their final touches ahead of the much-awaited kickoff on September 19. With the IPL 2020 switching over to UAE due to the COVID-19 scare in India, teams have been considering making a few changes to their tactics to suit the playing conditions. One of those teams might be Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who are still contemplating over the fact if they should promote Andre Russell to number 3.

Russell is one of KKR's main catalysts, who's matchwinning allrounder abilities guided the Kolkata franchise to multiple wins from unthinkable situations. The West Indian cricketer is widely known for his power-hitting in the shortest format of the game and under the new coaching of Brendon McCullum, KKR might opt for a much more aggressive approach.

David Hussey, KKR mentor, recently claimed that if promoting Russell up the batting order benefits the team then they will do it. The former Australian cricketer also said that if the Windies powerhouse manages to face 60 balls in a match, he has the capability to score a double century too in T20 cricket.

"If it benefits the team and helps us win games of cricket, why not? If that means Andre Russell comes in at three and bats 60 balls, he might actually make a double hundred. Anything can happen with Dre Russ," KKR mentor David Hussey said during a press conference on Sunday.

"A fantastic player, he is probably almost the heartbeat of the team as well. We’ve actually got really a well-balanced team… Anyone can bat in any different position. But if it benefits the team, why not, why can’t he bat up the list," he added.

Hussey went on to speak about KKR's new head coach and said, "Anyone who knows Brendon McCullum is aware that he plays the game at 100 miles per hour, and he tries to encourage the players to take the game on. So we’ve got players who can take the game on, players who can fit in the anchor role."

Going into IPL 2020, the Kolkata side bought some huge names at the auctions with Eoin Morgan being one of the big ones. This is set to be Morgan's second stint with the franchise.

"He (Morgan) is a huge name, World Cup-winning captain, captain of England for a long time, classy player, classy performer. He is also going to be a great ally for Dinesh Karthik, maybe fielding in the ring and talking to the bowlers with our captain behind the stumps," Hussey said while speaking about Morgan's arrival.

Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their IPL 2020 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on September 23.
