There is no way to stop Mumbai Indians at the moment even if you have folded them out cheaply or even so if you have recovered strongly from a major collapse.

Delhi Daredevils know this by now after they suffered a 14-run defeat at the hands of the Rohit Sharma’s team at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday night.

This was Mumbai India’s sixth straight win on the trot at and fourth at home. The win also keeps them atop of the points table at 12 points from seven games.

So Delhi did all right from the word go. They chose to field first on a track that had tinge of green and good carry. With four top class pacers in their line-up, the Zaheer Khan-led outfit kept the mighty batting in check, resulting in restricting them to 142 for eight in 20 overs.

The chase was supposed to be a formality as 142 by any standards is achievable in today’s time. But the Mumbai seamers made it tough especially the New-Zealand import Mitchell McClenaghan.

After opener Aditya Tare’s run out by Hardik Pandya in the first over, the next five wickets fell one after another with McClenaghan getting the top three while Hardik scalping the dangerous Rishabh Pant for a duck.

It seemed all over for Delhi till all-rounder Kagiso Rabada and the dangerous Chris Morris joined hands to make a good recovery. The lower-middle order batsmen ran quick runs and got the big shots at regular intervals.

The turn around

Right when Delhi thought they could do it -- 30 needed from 12 balls -- with big hitters around, Sharma brought in the death over specialist Jasprit Bumrah. And boy, the Gujarat bowler did it once again and how. The miserly Bumrah conceded one each in first two balls. The third, a slow off-cutter, breezed past Rabada’s off stump while he went for a wild swing.

The next ball was aimed at the stumps. Rabada (44) went for another swing and failed to connect as the ball crashed on to the timber, demolishing all Delhi’s hope for a win. Meanwhile, Morris completed his half century, but alas it all went in vain.

Mumbai won the game by 14 runs with McClenaghan walking away with the man of the match award for three for 24.
