The legend does have a point.

Virat Kohli said it was "strange" that an entire squad was collectively failing consistently after his team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were humiliated once again, this time by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP).

"We let ourselves down with the bat once again. I have not seen so many collapses for a team in one season. You don't really understand what to do in times like these," said Kohli. "It's really disheartening. I don't know what to say in games like these anymore. It's happening many a times now for our liking. At the moment, anything we're doing with the bat isn't working. It's quite strange for the entire squad to be playing in that zone."

While the RCB skipper was "really hurt" after the loss on Friday, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes Kohli himself deserves a lot of the blame for his team's dismal showing in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017.

Kohli was the highest run-scorer in the IPL last year, blasting 973 runs in total, which included four centuries. This time, however, the 28-year-old has looked completely out of sorts.

"First thing he should be doing is look himself in the mirror. The shot he played (against KXIP) wasn't exactly a great shot. The shot he played at Eden Gardens (against KKR) wasn't a great shot," said Gavaskar in a post-match analysis for the official broadcaster.

"Apart from (Chris) Gayle, who was deceived by late movement, Virat went for that big six shot, AB de Villiers went for that big six shot, Mandeep Singh, having settled down, went for the big shot. So, there you are," added the legend.

Last year's runners-up RCB have become the first team to be knocked out of contention this time around. Rather than seek answers elsewhere, Kohli should pay heed to Gavaskar's words and get his act together.
