For Indian cricket aficionados, Ravi Shastri could well be mistaken for a relic. The man has been around forever. After a lengthy career as a part of the Indian cricket team, the Mumbaikar has had an even longer stint as a commentator. Many glorious memories of Indian cricket were elevated by the impressive baritone of Shastri. Be it the moment Mahendra Singh Dhoni won India the 2011 World Cup, or Yuvraj Singh's immortal six sixes against Stuart Broad in the 2007 World T2O, it was Ravi who was calling the shots in the commentary box each time.

Hence, Shastri wouldn't be grudged for losing his vigour once in a while. After all, the 54-year-old is still one of the most active pundits in the game.

Having said that, Mr. Tracer Bullet made the mother of all mistakes while holding the mic during Mumbai Indians' (MI) clash with defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium. Not just for the players, the Indian Premier League (IPL) runs on a relentless schedule even for the handful of commentators who are associated with the tournament.

In a clear case of exhaustion getting the better of him, Shastri suffered a brain fade moment after MI's victory on Wednesday. While hosting the post-match presentation ceremony, the former India all-rounder made a massive blunder when he ended the proceedings without handing out the Man of the Match award.

Shastri had an interesting discussion with the winning captain Rohit Sharma and was supposed to announce the biggest award of the night at the end. But he didn't. Instead, he thanked the viewers for tuning in and wished them a good night.

When the live coverage was brought back to the studio immediately after, Gaurav Kapur, Murali Kartik and Kevin Pietersen couldn't stop laughing. One can't judge them for finding it hard to come to terms with what had just happened. After all, how many times do you witness something like this. Probably never!

The viewers were quickly taken back to the ground where Shastri was apologising profusely for his gaffe. Even Jasprit Bumrah, who won the MoM award, couldn't help but get a wry smile on his face.

At the end of it all - after Shastri finally concluded the ceremony and the live coverage went back to the studio - Pietersen could still be seen enjoying a hearty laugh. The former England batsman even sent out a cheeky tweet to Shastri at that very moment.

"Wahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha - @RaviShastriOfc! Tough gig with that mic and all those notes? 1st bus?," wrote KP. He was taking a dig at all the notes that Shastri was carrying in his hand during the presentation ceremony, and also asking him if he was in a hurry to catch the first bus to go home.

Here's his hilarious tweet:

Shastri, on his part, was a sport and took his moment of embarrassment along with Pietersen's banter in the right spirit. "@KP24 hahahaha Works well sometimes. You have plenty to laugh about at the end of a long day," he replied.

Here's his tweet:

Well, considering IPL 2017 is still at a nascent stage, we reckon some downtime wouldn't hurt Shastri at this moment!
