Rohit Sharma has been fined 50 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire's call during Mumbai Indians' (MI) clash with Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

The MI skipper was left fuming at on-field umpire Sundaram Ravi after the latter refused to call a delivery 'wide' at a critical juncture during the match on Monday night. This turned out to be Rohit's second Level 1 offence in this year's Indian Premier League.

With MI needing 11 runs of the final four deliveries of the match, RPS pacer Jaydev Unadkat fired a delivery way outside Rohit's off-stump. The Mumbaikar couldn't get bat on ball and the visitors earned a priceless dot ball.

Rohit couldn't believe what had just happened and walked all the way over to umpire Ravi at the other end, something that's rarely seen on a cricket field. The two then had an animated conversation with Ravi explaining to Rohit that he had shuffled well across his stumps and hence the ball couldn't be called 'wide'.

Rohit was clearly disturbed at that time and got out on the next delivery, and MI subsequently lost the match a few balls later.

"Mr Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. This is Mr Sharma’s second Level 1 offence this season. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding," stated an official release by the IPL.
