The popular opinion about Gautam Gambhir will surely be that he personifies the meaning of his name. If one thinks of Gambhir (meaning - intense), one would almost always picture him with a frown on his face. The Delhi lad is a no-nonsense kind of person and maintain's a high work ethic as an athlete. His professionalism was on display when he guided Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to victory against Gujarat Lions in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash on Friday.
It doesn't then come as a surprise to know that Gambhir isn't really fond of dancing. In a column written by the 35-year-old for Hindustan Times, he talks about how no one, including his wife Natasha, has ever managed to get him to shake a leg on the dance floor.
Until now, that is.
Gambhir revealed how he was compelled to break into a jig for a sponsor's shoot.
"Let me share a little story," wrote Gambhir. "I am a quintessential Punjabi who loves his butter chicken and daal. I love my Punjabi music but not those DJ kinds. But I never dance which is very un-Punjabi and akin to an Aussie cricketer who doesn't sledge! I never ever have, not even to please my wife or erstwhile female interests. Not even Mr. Khan (Shah Rukh) could make me dance at any of KKR's IPL after-match parties.
"But then there is always a first. Yes, yours truly shook his leg and that too for a sponsor's shoot. Yes, I did. I know my wife Natasha will kill me for this as I have turned down her demands, instructions, and even appeals to shake a leg with her. I didn't even dance at my brother-in-law's bachelor's party which Natasha says is "criminal"."
Gambhir further went on to explain how his team-mates are out to get him post his debut gig. Yusuf Pathan can't stop smirking, Surya Kumar Yadav is offering him dance tips in exchange of batting tips, and another gentleman has quietly told him to never dance again.
Well, we'd imagine Gambhir to not be too bad on the dance floor after all. His twinkling toes while smashing spinners are testament to that!
