As Mahendra Singh Dhoni is in the middle of a lean patch in the on-going Indian Premier League (IPL), his detractors are out to get him. The former captain has failed to make it count in the three innings that he has played for the Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) thus far, looking a shadow of the force he used to be.

Whether it is the disappointment of not being the leader anymore, or simply a case of being out of form, MSD will need to get some big scores soon.

While critics like Sourav Ganguly have raised doubts about his credibility, even questioning his place in Team India, RPS skipper Steve Smith came out in support of Dhoni when he said that he wasn't worried about the veteran's form.

Agreeing with his compatriot, former Australian pacer Brett Lee backed Dhoni to come good. The 40-year-old, who is part of the commentary panel for IPL 10, believes that MSD should try and play his natural game.

"We know how good Dhoni is. We wish him well. We know he is a wonderful character and how good he is for the game. I hope he can get a big one in the next game," Lee was quoted as saying by India Today.

The likes of Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are turning into serious competition for Dhoni's after impressive performances in IPL 2017. Lee, though, believes that having competition is always a good thing.

"That's good. It's healthy when you have young guys pushing you. I know when I was playing for Australia and there were young guys coming through bowling 140's and you know your spot is never guaranteed. But that makes you hungry and train harder.

"I think MS Dhoni should try and play his natural game. I am not going to sit here and say this is how he should bat because he has been a wonderful player batsman and captain. Just hope he can play his natural game."
