Delhi Capitals were ruling the IPL 2020 points table with some fabulous displays in the first half of the tournament. Their batting was magnificent; their bowling was the envy of the other teams in the tournament. However, heading into the end of the league stages, the situation has changed dramatically. With their northern neighbors Kings XI Punjab staging a resurgence by winning five consecutive games, Delhi Capitals have suffered the other end of misfortune by losing three consecutive games. Their last loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 88 put a massive dent on their net run-rate, which is even lower than Royal Challengers Bangalore. Their journey is not going to get any easier as they take on Mumbai Indians, the only team assured of a playoff spot.

Mumbai Indians won their last encounter against Delhi Capitals by five wickets but they head into the match with question marks over Rohit Sharma. However, the four-time champions have proven that their depth in batting and bowling is simply the best in this tournament. Such is the depth that they have even coped with the absence of Rohit Sharma. The bowling is led admirably by Jasprit Bumrah while Trent Boult, although he has gone for runs, he has struck at regular intervals.

Delhi Capitals’ sudden dip in batting fortunes, especially Shikhar Dhawan will worry them if they have to stake a claim for the playoffs. A win for Delhi Capitals in any one of their games will seal the playoff spot for them but a loss in both games will take the direct qualification out of their hands.

Team News

Mumbai Indians are like the juggernaut of the IPL and they may not make any changes. However, if Rohit Sharma is fit, he might be immediately slotted in. However, they may not want to rush Rohit Sharma as the important tour of Australia is coming up, although Rohit is not in the side. For Delhi Capitals, they may want to get back Prithvi Shaw in place of Ajinkya Rahane.
