Watch: Eco-Cooler, Bangladesh's Zero Electricty cooler that has helped thousands of villages

Open your mouth wide and blow on you hand. Now, purse your lips and blow again. Latter was cooler? That is because the warm air gets forced through a smaller space compressing the air and thus cooling it.

This simple technology was put to use at Daulatdia at Bangladesh, and later, at many other villages across the country where temperatures inside metal shanties with no power supply often reach unbearable levels.

As seen in the video, the Eco-Cooler, made from just a grid and cut out plastic bottles was placed on windows. Air coming in was cooler than just an open window. This helped bring down the temperature in the room by almost five degree Celsius.

This device and the initiative was born out of the collaboration of Grey Bangladesh and Grameen Intel Social Business.

Shouldn't India be looking at this simple idea to bring some respite to the villages with less or no power and water supplies?
