Heavy emotions were witnessed in the Central Hall of Parliament on 20 May, 2014 as Narendra Modi entered it for the first time after winning the Lok Sabha elections.

While thanking everyone for their support Modi broke down and said in a choked voice, "Advaniji said that I have done a favour to BJP. Like India, BJP is also my mother. Can serving the mother be a favour? Not at all. A son is only dedicated to serving the mother."

Calling the mandate given to BJP a vote for hope, Modi said this was the first government which will be headed by someone born in independent India.

"I don't know what pessimism is. I am optimistic. Only an optimist can generate hope in the country. The countrymen will have to leave this pessimism. If the 125 crore people in the country take a step forward, the country will move forward by 125 crore steps," he said.

Modi also shared the beginnings of his political career and the core idea during the election campaign being "sabka saath sabka vikas".
