Hundreds of members of the LGBT community and supporters of gay rights gathered at Connaught Place to take part in the 7th edition of the Delhi Pride Parade on Sunday. The atmosphere was colourful and people vibrant. Splashed with rainbow colours, the crowd marched from Barakhamba Road to Jantar Mantar with balloons, flags, masks and posters. The crowd called for acceptance of LGBT individuals in society.
One of the posters with 'Different is not wrong' written on it sent a strong statement to the the Supreme Court's December 2013 judgment that upheld Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that bans homosexual sex. The right wing political parties were targeted by the crowd which echoed the view that they give Indian culture a dirty name. The straight community also came out in huge numbers to show their support for the LGBT community holding placards which read 'Straight but not narrow'.
Sortedd, a popular Youtube channel, came out in support of the community and interviewed people participating in the parade to know their views on the issue. The following is a satirical take on homsexuality and gay people, intended to prick the conscience of those guilty of homophobia.
