Uttarayan is still some days away but the city sky was dotted with kites of various shapes and sizes on Sunday as thousands thronged to the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad for the kite festival. Kites of various size, type, shape and colour could be found at the event as the festival, which was thrown open on Sunday, drew kite-designers and flyers from various cities of India and across the world.

The chairman of Gujarat Tourism Development Corporation Kamlesh Patel inaugurated the kite festival. Around 105 kite flyers from 34 countries including Australia, Belgium, Turkey, and Switzerland are participating in the event.
