This was the mother of all leaks. On December 3, 1984, Bhopal witnessed one of the world’s worst industrial accidents when methyl isocyanate gas leaked from the Union Carbide factory, killing nearly 3,000 people. Even 25 years later, Bhopal’s groundwater and soil remain contaminated by toxic chemicals, keeping residents on their toes.
