Youth rescued after old building collapses in Surat

A youth was rescued following collapse of a two-storeyed building in Begumpura area of Surat city today, police said.

The incident occurred when an old house in Begumpura locality collapsed burying 20-year-old Nainesh Baruwala under the rubble, they said.

According to fire officials, Nainesh was rescued by the people and sent to hospital in an ambulance before their arrival.

The house belonged to one Anusuyaben Baruwala and was very old, fire officials said, adding that two motorcycles parked near the house were also crushed under the rubble.

Fire officials said that they were investigating the cause of collapse of the building.

A police complaint has been lodged and further investigation into the incident is on.
