In a tragic incident, Chirag Patel, 23, a resident of Jawahar Chowk in Maninagar jumped to his death from Ambedkar bridge in the city on Tuesday.

Fire brigade personnel, who were informed of the incident by an auto-rickshaw driver passing through the area, are still looking for the body of the suicide victim.

Patel, who had been working in the event management section of Karnavati Club for the last one-and-a-half years, had left home at 12 in the afternoon on his Pulsar bike.

At around 12.05 his father called him up to inform him that the RC book of his new bike had come. "At around 12.15 pm I was informed that my son had committed suicide," said a distraught Anil Patel.

People, who saw the incident happen but were too far to help, said Patel came to the bridge on his bike with a friend. "The friend tried to prevent him from jumping off the bridge. But, he was unsuccessful," said a person who witnessed the incident. The friend escaped from the scene leaving behind the Pulsar and Patel's mobile phone, said the eyewitness.

Meanwhile, another passer-by Deepak Sonara took Patel's phone and tried to contact his relatives. "His mobile was password protected and so I could not access the numbers. At that moment the victim's friend Jaymin Mare called on the cell," said Sonara.
He informed Mare about the suicide who informed the family. Patel's relatives are clueless as to what might have prompted him to kill himself.
