After drawing thousands of people on the first day with a flower shower from a helicopter, the Jyot exhibition drew an even larger crowd, of over 65,000, on the second day. Among the crowd were mostly the Jain youths who wished to derive an in-depth knowledge of their religion.

“The exhibition has been an eye-opener for me. I was not  aware of the fact that according to Jainism, every individual soul is pure and perfect. It has been associated, since eternity, with the karma, which leads to various transformations of the soul. Now that I know of it, I am encouraged to do more good to others around me,” said Rishabh Jaiteley, 24, one of the visitors.

The 11-day long exhibition on SG Highway was inaugurated by Acharya Yugbhushansurishwarji. It is said to be the first of its kind set up in the world in terms of dimensions and the use of multimedia for providing scientific explanation to religion. The exhibition seeks to explain in simple terms religion, spirituality and the concepts of soul and afterlife to non believers, especially youth. The concepts will be explained through audio-visual presentations which will be part of a guided and controlled tour of the 10 lakh square feet plot where giant domes and structures have been created.

“The whole set up of the exhibition, even the 3D audio-visual shows and interactive sessions, seems to have been designed keeping the youth in mind, and is hence very appealing to youngsters like me,” said Vatsal Dutta, 20. Built with the manpower of over 300 craftsmen and 150 volunteers, the exhibition has been made in an eco-friendly manner, with reusable material like bamboo, hay and straw sticking to the principles of Jainism.

“Even adults like me lack awareness as to who we are and what we believe, so for youngsters it is nothing less than an ordeal to understand religion and spirituality. This exhibition helps in building a strong foundation of positive objectives of seva, shiksha and sadhna,” said Madhusen Panachand Zaveri, a preacher.

The ‘Jyot’ exhibition aims to explain today’s youth the significance of religious knowledge by means of scientific and logical understanding. “The effort put in by the Jain community in bringing together the city’s Jain youth on a single platform will reinforce the acute need of the young population to follow their religion in the right way. Such exhibitions should indeed be organised on a regular basis,’’ said Viren Shah, 30.
