Unhappy over apparent refusal of marriage proposal, a 24-year-old youth shut himself up in a room in his girlfriend's house here and allegedly committed suicide, police said today.
 
The incident occurred last night.

P Jaya Simha (24), a B Tech graduate, courted S Parvathi (23) for three years. After completing MSc, she is working as a lecturer in a corporate college here, while he was employed as a temporary clerk in the Income-Tax Department in Hyderabad.

A fortnight ago, Jaya Simha, broached the issue of marriage with Parvathi, whose response was evasive. He suspected that she is no more interested in him and is considering other suitors, police said.
 
Last night, Jaya Simha went to Parvati's residence and proposed for wedding. However, despaired by her unhelpful reply, he rushed into a room in Parvati's house, bolted the doors from inside and consumed pesticide, they said.
 
He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, police stated.
 
Police registered a case of suicide and questioned the parents and relatives of the couple.
