Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) International, Ahmedabad chapter, is planning a 22-storey building for a club on its campus on SG Highway. The association’s campus has been a prominent landmark on the highway for decades.

The building will provide accommodation and facilities of international standards for leisure, sports and other recreational activities.

Shyam Mehta, chief executive officer of YMCA International, Ahmedabad chapter, said the association will initially build only 12 floors of the 22-storey building. The 12 floors will have 130 rooms, two swimming pools and an indoor open jacuzzi. He added that they were trying for a tie-up with a major hotel chain for the club building.

Once the structure is ready, it will be one of its kind in the city. “But the campus will continue to be a garba venue, too,” Mehta said. The YMCA ground is currently one of the most popular garba venues in Ahmedabad.

Mehta said organizing garba at the site will not be problem as the YMCA campus includes over 1,00,000 sq ft of land. “Besides the lawn that is already there, two more lawns will be built over 20,000 sq yd of land,” he said.
