World Bank intends to provide financial aid to municipal bodies in India

The World Bank is willing to provide financial aid to progressive municipal bodies in Andhra Pradesh and other India states to take up development projects like road constructions, said Songsu Choi, lead urban economist South Asia Region of World Bank.

Such incentives could be provided to those municipalities in AP which are doing well under the Andhra Pradesh Municipal Development Project (APMDP), Songsu Choi said.

Songsu Choi was speaking to PTI on the sidelines of a workshop on 'AP Municipal Development Projects' in Hyderabad. World
Bank also likes to support initiatives for energy savings, he added.

The World Bank is willing to provide financial aid to municipalities to take up road construction, water supply and sewage works, Choi said.

At the state-level, World Bank is supporting urban poverty alleviation, road projects and rural water supply, he added.
