The businesswomen’s committee of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has made some ambitious plans for the celebration of the silver jubilee year of the body’s foundation. Moreover, the GCCI has decided to include businesswomen in its mainstream activities in the state.

The committee is planning to start a helpline for women entrepreneurs. The helpline will provide information on various government schemes, tax problems, product guidance etc to businesswomen. “Till now, the helpline has only provided contact details. Our helpline will now provide proper guidance and information,” Shah said.

The committee will focus on five areas, namely textiles, food processing, jewellery, handicrafts and tourism. It also plans to conduct a three-day seminar on entrepreneurship for women to guide them on finance management, marketing management and other aspects of business, she added.

The businesswomen’s committee organises an exhibition of women entrepreneurs every year. However, it has now decided to develop this as a brand and has termed it Garima 2009.

“The committee was formed to lift the self-esteem of businesswomen. Hence, the exhibition has been named ‘Garima’. The three-day exhibition will be organised from September 11 to 13. Around 60 woman entrepreneurs are expected to participate in it,” said Neeta Shah, the newly inducted chairperson of the businesswomen’s committee.

Taking into consideration the problems of the English language and computer literacy, the committee will start spoken English and basic computer education classes for members of the businesswomen’s committee.

Former GCCI president and guest of honour at the function to induct new office-bearers of the businesswomen’s committee, Samveg Lalbhai asked the members of the committee to think big and become active in the mainstream activities of the chamber.
