Vadodara: In a bizarre incident, a woman threw her two-month-old child into Sursagar lake on Wednesday. The child's body was recovered by fire brigade officials.

Gauri Mahendra Kahar, who lives at Navapura Kahar Mohalla, gave birth to his fifth child about two months ago. Her husband Mahendra Kahar works as a watchman at a site near Dena village.

For last three days, the child was suffering from cough and cold and she was already facing financial difficulties. This kept her depressed and she thought of a plan to get rid of her own little son.

She went to Sursagar and sat on the steps of the lake, looked here and there to see if anyone was watching her. Then she threw the baby into the lake, returned home and floated a kidnap theory.

While people were busy to look for the "kidnapped" child, Gauri's neighbour Kusumben Phoolmali asked Gauri's elder son Anik what exactly happened. When Anik told the story, Gauri's family members as well as police personnel questioned her. Finally, she told them what she had done.
