A 30-year-old woman in Satellite area on Saturday not only took her own life, but snuffed out the lives of her two daughters in a ghastly incident in the afternoon.

Divya Thakkar had been suffering from TB for many years and, her husband Kalpesh says, she used to frequently say that she couldn't bear it any longer and wanted to end her life.
So, on Saturday at 3.15, when she was at home with her step-daughter Bhoomi, 8, and daughter Mansi, 2, she took the extreme step.

Neighbours say that they though it was a fire caused by a gas leak when they failed to get a response while trying to get the door of the Thakkar's residence in Krupa Co-operative Housing Society open.

Smoke was billowing out of the apartment and when they got no reaction when they banged on the door, they broke it down.

The horrific sight of three dead bodies met their eyes and the gas too was burning. They summoned the police and the fire brigade and the husband, who runs a snacks eatery.

Divya had apparently doused her children with kerosene before burning them to death, and then took her own life.

The Satellite police have registered a case of murder and suicide against her. It was a second marriage for both
Divya and Kalpesh.

Police are investigating further into the matter.
