Though the notification for the municipal corporation and other local bodies' elections has not yet been issued, it is believed that the elections will be held before Navaratri. The notification for the elections is likely to be announced next week.
Sources in the state government said that Navaratri's festival mood in the state may affect the voters, which may lead to poor turnout at voting time. "To ensure the maximum voters' participation in the elections, it is being considered that the date should be fixed before Navaratri. So, looking at the present situation, there are chances that the dates for these elections would be between October 3 and October 8. The date for the voting is most likely to be October 3," said sources in the state election commission.
An official also indicated that the notification for the elections will be issued any time between August 30 and September 4, as most of the state government programmes will be over by August 29.
Moreover, there needs to be some specific time period for filling the nomination forms and scrutiny and withdrawal of the forms. "So looking at the given situation, the feasible time for the elections would be the first week of October."
"The election will likely be held in two phases. Municipal Corporations and Municipality elections are likely to be organized in the first phase and the second phase will be of district and taluka panchayat elections," sources added.
Soon after the notification is issued, transfers of deputy collector level officers across the state would be done. The official further said, "Apart from the deputy collector level officers, other officers, who are serving on their present posts for last three year would also be transferred."
