Will Muslims vote for BJP in Dariapur?

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expects a 'Kathlal in Dariapur'. The walled city area and especially Dariapur is considered to be one of the strongholds of the Congress.

However, the BJP is aspiring to win a couple of seats riding on the popularity of the chief minister Narendra Modi and his development oriented politics.

Dariapur, in particular, is thought of a Congress bastion as around 60% of the total votes in the ward are held by the minority community. Till now the BJP had very little hope of winning seats in this area as they could not expect to get even a single vote from the minority community.

However, this time the scene is quite different. A group of around 25 minority youth can be seen at the BJP election office outside Dariapur Darwaja regularly.

They believe that caste or creed does not matter. They said that they will vote for the candidate who is interested in development of the area and provide basic amenities to the people.

"Till now we have voted for the Congress, but have not got our problems solved. A minority community corporator from our ward comes to us only once in five years," said one of the young men.

He said that although he been one of the most experienced corprorators of the Congress and has come out victorious for three terms; he has become complacent and does not care to work for the people. 

"In fact, the women of our area did not allow him to  campaign here," he claimed.
