Will former gangster Abdul Wahab Baloch fly to Mecca for his Haj pilgrimage on Thursday?

That is the question facing city cops. Sources close to Wahab told DNA that the flight tickets for Wahab have already arrived. According to sources, Wahab, who is in a mood to defy the dictum of the police, has also disappeared from his home in Dariapur.
"Even his mobile phone is switched off because of which he cannot be located," sources said.

A source close to the development said, "The police have been after Wahab since his release. While the police says it won't let him go, Wahab is adamant that he will leave for the pilgrimage."

Sources in the department said that Wahab plans to travel alone and is not going through the Haj committee of India.

"As a result the police is suspicious that once abroad, he may start a gang of his own on the lines of Rasool Parti and Dawood Ibrahim," the source said.

When DNA contacted Shahpur police inspector BM Naik, he said, "When the sessions court released the passport of Wahab, we had sent a letter to the passport authority asking them not to do so."

"Even the special branch and crime branch is working in this direction," Naik said.
Wahab was once a close aide of gangster Abdul Latif. He went on to start his own gang. He was recently released from the central jail after he served a life term.

The city police is likely to file an application in the Gujarat high court to prevent Abdul Wabab Baloch, the former henchman of Abdul Latif, from going to Saudi Arabia to perform Haj.

Wahab was released a few months ago from the Sabarmati jail after completing a jail term for murder. Three months back the city sessions court had ordered the release of his passport.

The city police woke up to the gravity of the situation after it came to their notice that Wahab planned to go for Haj. Hence it is likely to file an appeal against the order of the city sessions court.

According to highly placed sources in the judiciary, the home department has given its consent to file an application in this connection. “The police department is preparing to file an application against the possible departure of Wahab for pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. Three months back, the city sessions court had released his passport and we are studying the case papers,” the source said.

The sources further said, “We will file an application on various grounds to prevent the former gangster from going abroad and will put up the case as an 'urgent' one on Thursday.”
