A 29-year-old woman and her close friend were today arrested for allegedly murdering her businessman-husband at their residence in west Delhi, a senior police official said.

Jagmohan Singh Kohli (32), who owned a rubber factory in Anand Parbat, was found dead with multiple stab injuries and a scarf around his neck by police in his Rajouri Garden residence by police after his wife Sumit Kaur informed them about the incident.

Kaur and her close friend Puneet were placed under arrest after questioning, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sharad Aggarwal said.

"There were many inconsistencies in the statement on the sequence of events provided by her. She confessed to the crime after sustained questioning," Aggarwal said.

Kaur apparently told police that Kohli used to verbally abuse her and she was harassed by him. "She was very close to Puneet. They used to meet regularly," Aggarwal said.

Kohli also allegedly took around Rs five lakh from Puneet. "He wanted the money back and early morning yesterday, Kohli and Puneet had a verbal duel over the issue which led to his death," a senior police official said.

Kaur had earlier told police that four men barged into the residence in the early hours of yesterday and demanded Rs four lakh from him. However, Kohli refused to give them the money and the gang stabbed him several times.

According to the woman, the four men also tied her hands and legs but after they left the place, she managed to untie herself and inform police about the incident. Police rushed Kohli to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Sumit, who was living separately for the past four months apparently due to a marital dispute, had returned to Kohli's residence only on Wednesday.

Police said they had suspicions about Sumit's conduct after the murder. "She did not inform her neighbours about the incident and went directly to a relative's place from where she informed police," the official said.

The couple had two children -- Jasleen (8) and Ronak (6). The children were at the residence of Sumit's mother at the time of the incident.

Kohli's brother Manjeet Singh alleged that Sumit was involved in the crime.

"She never went along with the family. She was not living with him for the past four months. She came a day ago and now he is dead," he alleged.
