Uprooted trees and broken trunks blocking roads, twisted bill boards, caved-in boundary walls and disrupted electricity and telecommunication network - all happened in about five minutes here today.

A whirlwind which played havoc in the port town this afternoon took its denizens unaware destroying almost everything which came its way.

The nature's fury was so severe that bill-boards flew in the air like balloons while many casuarina trees in the coastal town were uprooted, officials said.

Boundary walls at many places, including that of the administrative building of the Paradip Port Trust, caved-in under the impact of the high speed wind.

The areas badly affected in the town included Hanuman market, Mahavir Colony, Nuabazar, Badapadia, administrative building of PPT and GJI colony.

Though property was lost in the whirlwind, no report of anyone being injured was received so far, official sources said adding Orissa Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) personnel were engaged to clear the roads by removing uprooted trees and broken trunks.

"The whistling sound and menacingly swinging coconut, flying bill boards and hoardings reminded me of the scene of the killer super cyclone 11 years ago.

"I heaved a sigh of relief when it relented after about five minutes of its rule," businessman GB Sahu said.
