Weather remains hot and sultry in North India

It was another hot and sultry day for people in most parts of North India, as Churu and Barmer in Rajasthan reeled at 43.2 degree Celsius.

Temperature settled above the 40-degree mark in many places in the desert state with Bikaner recording a maximum temperature of 42.6 C, followed by Jodhpur and Kota (42.4 C each), Jaisalmer (41.6 C) and Sriganganagar (41.5 C).

Elsewhere in the state, Ajmer, Jaipur and Dabok recorded a high of 40.5, 40.2 and 40.1 degrees respectively.

Delhi too saw the temperature inching towards 40-degree mark. The national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 39 C, a rise of 0.2 degrees from that of yesterday, while the minimum was recorded at 20.8 C up from yesterday's 19.6 C.

The mercury in the city had touched 39.2 degree Celsius
on March 21 this year which was the second highest maximum
temperature in the month of March in the past 65 years.

Heat conditions further intensified in the states of Punjab and Haryana with mercury settling five to seven degrees above normal at most places in the region. 

Patiala settled at a high of 39.5 degree Celsius, five notches above normal, followed by Amritsar at 39.4 C, seven degrees above normal. While Karnal had a high of 39 degree Celsius, five notches above normal, the maximum temperature at Ambala settled at 38.9 C.

Mercury also showed an upward trend in Jammu and Kashmir. Winter capital Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 38.4
degrees, over seven notches above normal, while the high in
Srinagar shot up to 24.8 degree Celsius, 6.8 degrees above
normal.

Weather remained warm in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, with capital Shimla recording a maximum temperature of 26.4 C (26.7 C yesterday) while the minimum rose to 15 degree Celsius against yesterday's 14.1 C.
