Due to heavy rains in the upstream areas and subsequent inflow of water in the Kharicut canal, many societies around it were partially submerged in water of around 2 feet high. Panicked by sudden rise in water levels, some of the residents immediately called the fire brigade, who informed officials of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to control the flow of water.

Early on Sunday morning, residents of Ravi Randal society as well as Radhika park society at Jashodanagar near Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway, learnt that water levels of Kharicut canal is rising rapidly. Since the canal water got overflowed and these societies are on its banks the water overflowed its banks and entered the societies during morning. It is learnt that many societies were under 2 feet of water during morning.

To control the situation, the water flow was decreased from its source by the AMC officials. Within 2 hours, the situation finally came under control as water started receeding. Meanwhile, Odhav fire station and the service road also drowned in 1feet water due to heavy rain and subsequent water logging in the area. Though the 200 mtr service road was submerged, it didn’t stop commuters from driving through, leading to slowdown in traffic movement.

Stating the reason, corporator of Odhav ward, Bharat Patel said, “Due to Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on this road, the service road is on a lower level than BRTS, due to which, water gets logged here.” However, he also stated that water drained off by evening and all major bottlenecks got cleared.
