Former National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Justice JS Verma today said that as an Indian, he felt demeaned, when a group of ministers went to receive Yoga guru Baba Ramdev before he sat on an indefinite fast at Ramlila maidan in Delhi.

Verma also said that he does not agree with the undemocratic ways.

"The whole thing (Ramdev episode) was shameful. It was a total incompetence on the part of everyone involved," Verma, a former Chief Justice of Supreme Court told reporters in Goa.

He said that it all started with VVIP reception for Ramdev at the airport.

“Starting from that, I felt demeaned as an Indian. The kind of seriousness given to him was unwarranted,” Verma said.

Taking a dig at the police-action against Ramdev and his supporters at the Ramlila Maidan, Verma said that those, who were not taken seriously earlier, gained credibility due to the post-midnight action by the police.

"It was unfair that children and women were attacked in their sleep," the former NHRC chief said.

"Ramdev maybe a good Yoga guru. But I don’t agree with whatever is not democratic," Verma said.

The former Chief Justice said that Ramdev should respect members of Parliament as they are elected by the people, however, undesirable they may be.
