Polling ended peacefully on Sunday, but district collectorate office had a difficult time getting their math right after a look at the voting figures in five booths of the city.  This was because the number of votes cast was more than the voters registered in these booths.

While district administration began the process to rectify the errors, the collector promised action, if anyone is found guilty. Voting figures and their percentages were submitted to the Surat collector office on Monday.

Everything initially seemed accurate and perfect but higher officials soon noticed some discrepancy in the voting figures at five booths of the city.  All these booths registered more than 100% voting with two of them recording more than 140% voting.  Shocked by this, officials ordered an inquiry into the incident.
This was because there seemed to be a possibility of bogus voting in these booths.

Out of five, four booths (no. 30, 37, 38 and 45) are in ward no. 11 (Adajan Paschim) and booth no. 36 is in ward no. 10 (Rander & Gorat).

In booth no. 30, the registered voters are 980 while 1,177 votes were cast in the polls.  In booth no. 38, 1106 people cast their votes against registered 774 voters.

In booth 37, the registered voters were 1146 and 1148 votes were cast while it was 1197 voters with 1278 votes in booth no. 45.
In booth no. 36 in ward no. 10, 1632 people exercised their franchise despite the fact that it had only 1428 registered voters.

Sources said that officials, responsible for these booths were asked to clarify about the discrepancy. District collector AJ Shah termed the flaws as human errors and claimed that nothing wrong has happened. He said that appropriate action will be taken if anyone is found guilty.
