Despite precautionary measures taken by educational institutions in the state to keep swine flue at bay, the disease has already infected at least one campus in the state capital.

The authorities at Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information Technology (DAIICT) in Gandhinagar are still not very forthcoming about the status of one of their students, the state health department has confirmed that the student is affected by H1N1 virus.
Sandeep Meena, an under-graduate student, had complained of fever and was taken to the Civil hospital for tests and treatment.

Meena returned to the campus on Tuesday morning as the doctors told the institute that results of the test conducted on him had turned out to be negative. However, the same night, the civil hospital officials visited the institute to pick him up for further tests after which it was confirmed that the student had tasted positive.

While confirming the report of Meena's test, state health secretary Ravi Saxena said, "We have advised the institute not to allow any student to go home and instead keep them in campus, so that if any of them gets infected, at least the virus will not spread. If anyone falls sick on the campus, we could treat him."

The DAIICT authorities, however, maintain they have no information about the student's health status. Hostel warden Asim Banerjee said, "We have nothing certifying whether the boy has been found negative or positive to the virus. In the morning, the doctors told us that the test report was negative. But, in the late evening the hospital authorities came to the institute again and took the boy to the hospital to conduct further tests on him. He has been admitted in the hospital and after that we have received no communication in the regard."

A student of the institute said, "The boy stayed in H block which is by way of its construction secluded from the rest. However the labs where he worked have been shut for an indefinite period. The students are anxious but the classes are going on normally."
Students everywhere on the campus could be seen wearing masks. While most of the students wanted to go back home and even parents turned up to fetch their children, the institute denied students permission to leave the campus.
