The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today said it would launch a nationwide protest against the West Bengal government's move to provide 10% reservation to Muslim community in the state.

Terming the announcement as "violation of the spirit of the constitution", VHP international general secretary Praveen Togadia said the outfit would launch a nationwide agitation against the move and also challenge it in the Calcutta high court.

"We will also approach the High Court to challenge the decision of the West Bengal government...It is injustice to Hindu community," Togadia, who was on a personal visit to the city, told reporters here.

"Earlier Congress-led Andhra Pradesh government also tried to extend reservation to Muslim, but the high court rejected the move when it was challenged by VHP," he said.

The VHP leader said he would visit Kolkata on February 16 to discuss and finalise the strategy to launch the agitation.

"It is not only the West Bengal or Andhra Pradesh governments, but the Centre is also indulging in policies to please Muslim to get political mileage. VHP will fight against it and will not allow any injustice to Hindu community," he said.
