Vaghela, Mehta, Mistry detained, released

Congress leaders Shankersinh Vaghela, Suresh Mehta and Madhusudan Mistry were on Monday detained by the police in the city before they could join a rally taken out by government employees.

They were detained in Shahibaug where members of the Prabuddh Nagarik Shakti Manch (PNSM), a non-profit organisation floated by Vaghela and Mehta (both former chief ministers of Gujarat), had gathered. Mistry is a leading tribal leader and former Congress MP.

According to the police, the former CMs were detained as a preventive measure as they did not have the permission to take out a rally in support of the government employees. The agitating employees are pressing for the implementation of the recommendations of the 6th pay commission.

The detained leaders were to attend the meeting organised by the protesting government employees at the GMDC ground. Several other leaders who were also detained.All the detained leaders were released in the evening.
