Hours after announcing the name of its candidates from Bareilly district, the Samajwadi Party was forced to cancel the list today apparently due to resentment from a section of party workers.
"The list of party candidate announced by party president Akhilesh Yadav for Bareilly has been cancelled," Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury said without citing any reasons.
However, Samajwadi Party sources said there was resentment from a section of party workers over the selection of the candidates and in a bid to pacify them the list has been cancelled.
Earlier, Yadav had announced the names of Jahid Hussain alias Haji Guddu from Meerganj, Anil Sharma from Bareilly, Faheem Sabir Ansari from Bareilly Cantt and Mahipal Singh Yadav from Aonla.
The fresh list for these seats will be announced later, the spokesperson said. Samajwadi Party had already announced the names of over 200 candidates of the total 403 seats in Uttar Pradesh where elections are due early next year.
