Uttar Pradesh govt spending Rs147 crore on police modernisation

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today said her government is spending Rs147 crore on modernisation and upgradation of police force in the state.

"Rs147 crore have been released for modernisation of police force which includes training equipment, arms and ammunition, communication and riot control devices," Mayawati said addressing a function to felicitate police personnel with gallantry awards here.

Cadres of gazetted officers are being reviewed and training centres and forensic science laboratories being upgraded to strengthen the force, she said.

"The government is installing computers at all police stations and is inter-connecting them," she said.

Mayawati said that in a bid to remove anomalies in different cadres of police department grade pay of personnel upto the post of additional sub-inspector has been increased.

"An order to this effect had already been passed by the government," she said.

The chief minister distributed gallantry awards to 106 police officers and personnel and heaped praise on them for displaying efficiency and dedication on various occasions like the Kumbh mela (fair), Commonwealth Games and the situation following Allahabad high court verdict on Ayodhya title suits.

"With its work efficiency and dedication UP police had made major achievements this year and has done the state proud," she said and asked it to remain vigilant as her government will not compromise on the issue of law and order.

Mayawati said her government successfully and peacefully conducted panchayat elections entirely with its own resources without any assistance from the Centre, she said.
