The United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) is ready for talks with the government as it wants to solve the vexed insurgency issue through negotiations, top leader of the group Chitrabon Hazarika, who was picked up by BSF along with his associate, said today.
"We are ready for talks. We want to solve the issue through negotiations," Hazarika told reporters before he and Sashadhar Choudhury were taken to the court of the chief judicial magistrate here at the end of their 10-day police remand.
"Ulfa always wants a peaceful solution to the problem through talks. The group had earlier initiated steps for talks but it failed," he said.
"However, whatever decision is taken by chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa will be accepted by all leaders of the group," he said.
Both Hazarika and Chowdhury, 'finance and foreign secretaries' of Ulfa respectively, were picked by BSF guards while they were crossing over from Bangladesh to India through Tripura border on November 6.
