Two sisters commit suicide

In a shocking case of double suicide, two sisters were found hanging dead in their house at Bhatar road in Surat on Monday. The reason behind the suicides is yet to be ascertained because police have not been able to speak to shocked family members so far.

According to Khatodara police, Rinku alias Rashmi Baria, 24, and her sister Nidhi, 17, were found dead in their house in Dinbandhu society, Bhatar Road, today morning. Both had committed suicide by hanging themselves to the ceiling fan using dupatta and nylon ropes.

The shocking incident came to light on Monday morning when parents of the two girls returned from Pavagadh, and found them hanging dead in their room. Their father, Laxman Baria, 57, who works as a talati in Bharuch district, informed the police, who rushed to the scene and started investigations.

Preliminary inquiries by police revealed that Rashmi was studying in college, while Nidhi was a class XII student. The girls' parents had gone to Pavagadh on September 26 and returned this morning. The parents were clueless about what could have prompted the two girls to end their lives.

“We have started investigations, but we are yet to find out the likely suicide motive as we have not spoken to the victims' family in detail. We will record family members' statement in a day or two," investigating officer, RS Chavda said. Chavda, however, ruled out possibility of any foul play and confirmed that it was a case of suicide.
